A filmmaker for Potsdam: Jana Marsik
print pageprint page

"24 hours in Berlin": For one day in summer 2008, 80 camera teams roamed about the streets of Berlin to capture the many faces of Germany's capital - a project gaining a lot of attention. In a similar but more sustainable way, the City of Potsdam and the Film and Television Academy "Konrad Wolf" have endeavored to produce a series of films portraying Potsdam as a "city of knowledge." For this purpose, they created the position of "municipal film maker", and advertised a contest that was won by the Czech camerawoman Jana Marsik. Marsik, born in Kiel in 1974, has one year to put the project into practice, in collaboration with students of the Academy.

Jana Marsik has already earned a reputation in the German Film Scene. She is a graduate of the Academy of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" and in 2002 she received the German Camera Award. In 2007, the film "Hands off the Mississippi", shot by her, won the German Film Award as the best children's movie. The only precondition for her production on science in Potsdam is that it somehow relates to the motto "Waves, Weather, Wonders". At the start of the project in June 2008, the municipal company Pro Potsdam provided her with an apartment, and the energy company Vattenfall pays her a monthly grant of 1.500 Euro.
