The tram has potential as an advertising medium. Following the example of commercial companies, proWissen Potsdam wants to use streetcars for its promotional purposes. From 2009 to 2011, Potsdam might have its own "Tram of Science", presenting Potsdam as a city of science as modern as the brand-new "Combino"-cars. Short films about research projects and scientific institutions will be shown to travelers on monitors inside the cars. Every month, a different institution will present itself. The streetcars' outer surface will be used by proWissen Potsdam to promote itself, and here also a potential sponsor has the opportunity to demonstrate its support for science in Potsdam.

With this project, proWissen Potsdam hopes to get more people interested in the work of scientists. The good thing about trams is that they are used by people from all social backgrounds. Young and old people, tourists and locals, the working population as well as pensioners - whoever moves around the city will eventually come across the tram of science.
